Angora Fire
07/01/2007
The Angora Fire started June 24th and is still burning. Our best wishes go out to all those affected. Some trails in the Gardner Mountain and North Upper Truckee area have certainly been affected and will not be usable for a number of days to come. These trails include Tahoe Mountain, Rock Garden, the road to Fallen Leaf from Gardner Mountain neighborhood, Valley View, Angora Lakes, Gun Tower and all its branches. Please determine current trail conditions before resuming use of these trails.

America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride
06/03/1907
Perfect weather and group of 3000 fun-loving riders made the 16th Annual "America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride" launching from South Lake Tahoe a huge success. The event has built a reputation for not only its spectacular scenery, but also its great food and support. The boat cruise, 35 mile Fun Ride, 72 mile ride around the Lake, and full 100 mile century were fantastic. This ride continues to promote the Lake Tahoe Bikeway, a plan to build and interconnect bike lanes and trails around Lake Tahoe, and is the culmination of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's National Team In Training spring fund raising program. Thank you Team in Training and other groups and individuals for another memorable year.

The Death Ride Lived Up to Its Name
07/08/2006
It rained... and then it hailed... and as if that weren't enough, there was lightning. Three thousand riders turned out to suffer through almost 16,000 vertical feet across one hundred twenty-nine miles over 5 mountain passes. Largely variable weather conditions added challenges to the already grueling course, but all went well in the end (easy to say now that it's over). The 'Tour of the California Alps' near South Lake Tahoe continues to be a well-organized and hugely successful production drawing people from across the USA and abroad. It's interesting to note over the years that finishers of the full 129 mile course has increased from a couple hundred to nearly 2000. If you plan on participating next year, be sure to register in time for the lottery-style selection process. For more details, visit www.deathride.com.

Mandy at Sprouts was the winner of the New Belgium Fat Tire Ale cruiser that was raffled. For more information and photos, visit www.slowrollers.org.

Lake Tahoe's First 100 Mile Trail Run
04/22/2006
Registration is available for the Tahoe Rim Trail 50K/50M/100M on July 15-16.
January 24, 2006
We received the final "go ahead" this afternoon from the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Parks that we can add the 100-mile distance to our existing event. Our planned 100-mile course will be a double loop of the existing 50-mile course (yes that means you'll have to do the infamous Red House loop twice!).
Start time for the 100-mile event will be 5AM on Saturday morning, July 15th. There will be a 35 hour cut-off (4PM) at the finish line on Sunday afternoon.
We have been able to increase our event limit to 400 participants combined for all distances. 125 slots (at minimum) are reserved for the 100-mile event until June 17th, 2006. After that date any remaining openings will be first-come, first-served regardless of distance.

Nordica Race Dept. Recognizes Sports Ltd.
03/13/2006
Sports Ltd.'s support of Nordica race product and programs was recognized in a letter highlighting 2006 Olympians:
To Tahoe Sports Ltd.,
The 2006 Olympic Games in Torino, Italy have come to a close. I was fortunate enough to attend and it was an experience to remember. The USA men skied well in Sestriere, but no US Men's Ski Team athlete compiled a better performance than Olympic Gold Medalist, Ted Ligety, winning the Combined in breathtaking fashion.
To thank you for the support you have shown Nordica Racing throughout the years, I have included two tokens of appreciation. You will find a shell personally signed by Olympic Gold Medalist Ted Ligety and a poster signed by Ted Ligety, Chip Knight and Erik Schlopy.
The Nordica Certified Race Centers are a vital part of Nordica and Nordica values its partnership with you. It is CRC's like you that help build more racers like Ted Ligety and help them achieve their goals to compete at the Olypmic Games.
On behalf of Nordica and the Race Department, thank you for your support.
Best Regards,
Matt Knittle
Racing Sales and Service Manager

We're Digging Out!
01/03/2006
One of the biggest single-day snow storms ever just hit the eastern Sierras! We've seen almost 10 feet of snow in the last 24 hours! Ski and snowboard conditions are going to be great just as soon as we can all dig out. Please be cautious... wit so much snow so fast travel conditions will be difficult and the backcountry is unstable. But soon, it'll all be good.

Pray for Snow
11/19/2005
An extended Fall this year has mountain biking off the hook and skiers chomping at the bit. The dirt is absolutely perfect for banked turns and steep climbs, but that's all we see in the hills right now -- dirt. There's a conspicuous lack of snow in the Tahoe Basin. We're all geared up with nowhere to ski! Ski and snowboard goods are hot right now, so get 'em while you can. However, it looks like we're going to have to throw another Pray for Snow party to bring an end to Fall. But don't worry... Sports Ltd. promises that there will be snow in Winter.

Trails 90% Open
